Race will benefit scholarship in honor of fallen firefighter

The Crusader Classic 5K Run will take place on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Lt. Robert Neary Scholarship Fund in memory of the firefighter who died in April 2012 while battling a five-alarm inferno at an abandoned East Kensington warehouse. Neary was a 1970 Father Judge High School graduate.

Registrations will take place in the Father Judge school yard, 3301 Solly Ave., beginning at 7:30 a.m. Event T-shirts will be provided to all who pre-register (and to race-day registrants while supplies last).

The race will start at the bandshell in Pennypack Park, near Welsh Road and Rowland Avenue, at 9 a.m. It will finish with a lap around the Judge track.

Medals will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in age groups.
